Louisville Bats News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Louisville Bats (50-52) beat the Indianapolis Indians (57-44), 4-2, in 10 innings on Saturday for their fourth straight win.
Louisville struck first with a run on a sacrifice fly by catcher Ramon Cabrera in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Outfielder Ryan LaMarre then extended the Bats lead to 2-0 with a solo home run to center in the top of the fifth, his sixth long ball of the season.
Right-hander Wilfredo Boscan started for the Indians and allowed two earned runs on three hits, one home run, and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings of work.
The Indians responded with one run on three straight singles in the home half of the fifth. Gorkys Hernandez's RBI base knock capped the trio of singles and cut Louisville's lead in half, making it a 2-1 game.
Indianapolis then loaded the bases with one out in the sixth against righty Donn Roach. Right-hander Jose De La Torre came on in relief and walked in a run, tying the game at 2-2, before inducing an inning-ending double play.
Roach allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits with no walks and three strikeouts in six and one-third innings.
The Bats and Indians both went scoreless in the eighth and ninth, but Louisville came alive in the 10th. Outfileder Kyle Waldrop led off the frame with a single, LaMarre was hit by a pitch and, after two fielder's choices, Irving Falu was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Outfielder Brennan Boesch then lined a single to right, driving home two runs and giving the Bats a 4-2 lead.
Right-hander Carlos Contreras (S, 3) walked three batters in the bottom of the 10th, but kept the Indians off the board and locked up the Bats fourth straight win.
Righty Sam LeCure (W, 4-4, 6.00) worked two scoreless innings and allowed four hits with no walks and no strikeouts to earn the win in relief.
Right-hander Josh Wall (L, 0-3, 3.05) allowed both Bats runs in the 10th and took the loss. In all, Wall allowed two earned runs on two hits with no walks and one strikeout in two innings.
Louisville will send righty Matt Buschmann (1-3, 5.03) to the mound tomorrow to square-off with right-hander Chris Volstad (6-4, 3.51). Tomorrow's first pitch at Victory Field is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. Louisville will be looking to sweep the Indians and push its winning streak to a season-high five games with a win tomorrow.
