Weber Deals But Hens Lose in Pitchers' Duel

July 26, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

Sunday afternoon the Mud Hens found themselves on the wrong side of a pitchers' duel in Moosic, PA. Thad Weber started on the hill for Toledo and allowed only two runs in six and a third innings against the Scranton/Wilkes Barre RailRiders. The Mud Hens' offense was nowhere to be found though, tallying only one run on three hits in the game. With the win, the RailRiders were able to complete the three game sweep over the Hens.

After putting two base runners on and failing to score in the first inning, Manny Pina picked the offense up in the second. Leading off the inning, Pina hit a long drive to left field that cleared the fence for his second home run of the season, putting the Mud Hens up 1-0. Scranton/Wilkes Barre's starting pitcher Kyle Davies was lights out the rest of the way though, allowing only two hits on the day while throwing eight innings of one run baseball.

Weber was on for Toledo Sunday afternoon. After getting roughed up in his last outing, he responded by throwing six and one-third strong innings against the RailRiders. His only blemishes in the game came in the third inning when he allowed Ben Gamel to score after giving up a triple to him, and the seventh inning. In the seventh, the New York Yankees' top hitting prospect Aaron Judge hit a single to lead off, and advanced to second on a throwing error from Mike Hessman. Weber got an out, but allowed an RBI single to Cito Culver. Tom Gorzelanny came in and shut the RailRiders down to end the inning, but they had already taken a 2-1 lead.

The Mud Hens return to Fifth Third Field on Monday to take on the Rochester Red Wings at 7 p.m.
