DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White announced this morning that the National Hockey League's (NHL) Dallas Stars have recalled two players from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate in Iowa. Defenseman Nicklas Grossman was recalled from loan and Left Wing Mathias Tjarnqvist was recalled from his conditioning assignment. Both players will join the Dallas Stars tonight in Washington for their game against the Washington Capitals.

Drafted by the Dallas Stars in the second round, 56th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, this is the second recall for Grossman in the last four days. He was recalled for Dallas' game in Detroit on Monday night, but was a healthy scratch and did not play in Dallas' 2-1 loss to the Red Wings.

Prior to his second recall to the NHL, he had registered two goals, one assist and a 'plus 9' rating through 22 games with Iowa this season: 22(2/1/3)+9. A native of Stockholm, Sweden, his 'plus 9' rating is currently a team-best. In 61 games last season, the 21-year-old blueliner posted two goals, three assists and 49 penalty minutes while donning the Iowa Stars green and gold: 61(2/3/5)49. At 6-3, 206-pounds, he served as Captain for Team Sweden at the 2005 World Junior Championships. He was named the Iowa Stars Most Improved Player for the 2005-06 season.

Tjarnqvist, 27, was originally loaned to Iowa for conditioning on Saturday, November 25th. In two games for Iowa, the native of Umea, Sweden recorded one goal and one assist: 2(1/1/2). He has also skated in one game for Dallas this season, notching two penalty minutes in 10:25 minutes of ice time on Nov. 22 vs. Nashville. In 52 career NHL games, the 6-2, 196-pound winger has recorded three goals and five assists for eight points with 20 penalty minutes: 52(3/5/8)20.

Last season, he skated in 33 games for Dallas and posted six points (two goals and four assists) and 18 penalty minutes. In 34 games for Iowa a season ago, Tjarnqvist netted 17 goals and added 12 assists for 29 points, ranking fifth on the club in goals and sixth in power-play goals (5).
