Dail Pitches Grizzlies Past Otters

SAUGET, Ill. - B.J. Dail allowed two runs over 8.2 innings Wednesday afternoon to lead the Gateway Grizzlies to a 4-2 win over the Evansville Otters in the finale of a three-game series at GCS Ballpark.

Dail (2-1) allowed just five hits and struck out seven in the win. Both runs scored in the ninth, and just one was an earned run. Nick Walters, appearing in his third consecutive game, earned the save pitching the final one-third of an inning.

Jareck West opened the scoring in the fifth inning, lining a lead-off home run to right to make it 1-0 Grizzlies. West's homer was the first hit allowed by Evansville starter Chris Peters. The Grizzlies added a run later in the inning when Adam Eggemeyer grounded into a fielder's choice to score Justin Baum. The Grizzlies (15-10) added a single run in the sixth on an RBI single by Logan Parker. Brandon Peters made it 4-0 Grizzlies with an infield single in the seventh.

West finished the day 2 for 3 with the RBI. He now leads the Frontier League with nine homers and 29 RBIs. Peters was 2 for 4 with the RBI.

The Grizzlies welcome the Southern Illinois Miners to town for a three-game series beginning Thursday night at GCS Ballpark. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.
