Lake Erie Crushers News Release

AVON, Ohio - The Lake Erie Crushers earned their first series sweep of 2010 with an 8-2 victory over the Washington Wild Things Wednesday night at All Pro Freight Stadium.

For the first time in the series the Crushers jumped out to an early lead, as Wayne Bond's two-run triple in the second gave the home side a 2-0 lead. Eddie Tisdale led off the inning with an infield hit and Drew Saylor was hit by a pitch. Lake Erie would add a run to the advantage in the third when Eddie Tisdale laced a double to left field, scoring Jodam Rivera, who doubled to begin the frame.

The Wild Things plated a single run in the fifth on Alan Robbins' RBI-single to claw within 3-1, but that was all they could muster against Crushers' starter Matt Smith, who recorded his third-straight win in a start and fourth straight overall by pitching six innings, allowing just the one run on four hits while striking out three.

Lake Erie broke the game open in the seventh against Wild Things starter Zach Rosenbaum, scoring four times to chase him from the contest. Arden McWilliams hit a sacrifice fly to score Eddie Tisdale, who double leading off the inning. Dom Duggan singled home Wayne Bond and promptly stole second. Jodam Rivera finished the scoring with a two-run single to center. The Crushers would add another run in the eighth when Kurt Houck issued a bases-loaded walk to Rivera, who drove in three in the contest. Washington (8-16), which has lost five straight, scored in the ninth to account for the final total.

Every batter reached base in the game for the Crushers. Jodam Rivera and Eddie Tisdale each had three hits, including two doubles, and a walk. Wayne Bond also tallied three hits for Lake Erie.

The Crushers (12-12) head north to face the Traverse City Beach Bums (13-11) in a three-game set that begins Thursday. LHP Esmelvin Jimenez (2-1, 4.43) takes the hill for Lake Erie, opposing RHP Michael Moore (1-1, 3.60) for the Beach Bums. First pitch is set for 7:05.
