Southern Illinois Miners News Release
MARION, Ill. - The Miners spanked River City, 8-3, at Rent One Park on Wednesday night to extend their winning streak to eight. Joe Augustine (5-0) picked up his fifth victory of the season and became the first five-game winner in the Frontier League. Brad Miller provided most of the fireworks driving home three runs while adding his first home run of the season. After the two-game sweep of River City, the Miners are now 6-0 against the Rascals this season. Southern Illinois' record with the win, climbs to 20-4.
In Brad Miller's second game back from the injured list, he reminded Miners fans of what they have been missing. Miller unloaded a two-run home run for his first long ball of the season and added an RBI single, giving him three RBIs on the night to go along with two hits and a run scored.
Joe Augustine worked five and one-third of an inning, allowed two earned runs on five hits and added three strikeouts. A high pitch count early prevented him from going any deeper into the game.
After missing the past three games with back spasms, Banks returned to action with two hits, three total bases and two runs scored.
The Miners take to the road against divisional rivals as they start their six-game road trip Thursday from Gateway for a 7:05 p.m. On the mound, it will be right-hander Ryan Kussmaul (1-1, 3.31) opposing Gateway's Mark Brackman (1-2, 2.83) from GCS Ballpark in Game 1 of the road trip.
The Miners return home on Wednesday, June 23 with a 7:05 p.m. game against Normal.
