D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (December 8, 2014) - D.C. United has announced that the club has declined options on Nana Attakora, Alex Caskey, Jeff Parke, Kyle Porter and Conor Shanosky. Attakora, Caskey, Parke and Shanosky are all eligible for the Re-Entry Draft.
The club has also extended a bona fide offer to David Estrada, which allows the club to retain the player's MLS rights.
D.C. United can still negotiate new contracts with players who have had their options declined.
Acquired on Aug. 7, 2014, from Seattle Sounders FC, Estrada appeared in 9 games (3 starts) for the Black-and-Red and recorded two assists during the MLS season. A key component of United's CONCACAF Champions League success, he appeared in all four group stage matches and recorded two assists.
An eight-year veteran of MLS, Attakora was selected by the Black-and-Red in Stage 2 of the 2013 MLS Re-Entry Draft. Attakora did not feature in a MLS regular season game for United in 2014.
Caskey joined United on March 3, 2014, in a trade from Seattle Sounders FC. During the 2014 season, Caskey featured in 11 regular season games (two starts) for the Black-and-Red.
A 10-year veteran of MLS, Parke was acquired via trade with the Philadelphia Union on Jan. 14, 2014, and became an immediate fixture in United's lineup. The centerback started the first 13 games for the Black-and-Red until sustaining an injury against Sporting Kansas City on May 31. Parke did not feature for United during the remainder of the season.
Porter was acquired from the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in 2013 in exchange for a second round pick in the 2014 Supplemental Draft. In two seasons with United he has appeared in 32 games (18 appearances), recording three goals and one assist.
Shanosky, United's third Homegrown signing, joined the Black-and-Red in 2010 from the D.C. United Academy. In five seasons, the centerback featured in five MLS regular season games in addition to being loaned to the NASL Fort Lauderdale Strikers in 2012 and USL PRO Richmond Kickers during portions of the past two seasons.
Following today's announcement, D.C. United's current roster is listed below.
Goalkeepers (2): Bill Hamid, Andrew Dykstra
