Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO (Dec. 8, 2014) - The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced Monday its 11 protected players ahead of the 2014 MLS Expansion Draft on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. CT. The draft, which will be streamed live on www.MLSsoccer.com, will consist of ten rounds as expansion sides New York City FC and Orlando City SC will select 20 total players from MLS' other 18 teams.
Each club is required to protect 11 players. Clubs must also make available a number of International Players equal to the total number minus three.
Homegrown players that finished the 2014 season on the club's roster are automatically protected. Players signed since the end of the MLS season are not eligible for the Expansion Draft.
MLS clubs may lose no more than two players from their non-protected roster. Additionally, once a player has been selected from the non-protected roster, the club may move a player from its non-protected roster to its protected roster.
