Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Kalamazoo Wings had struggled against the Cincinnati Cyclones this season, losing nine of the first 13 meetings entering Saturday night. The Wings took a 6-3 win at U.S. Bank Arena on Saturday night to win for the first time in the facility this season-in seven tries. Andrew Fournier had a hat trick and contributed five points on the evening for the winners.

The triumph give Kalamazoo a two game lead over the Cyclones for the North Division lead with just four games remaining in the season. The Wings also now have the American Conference lead with the victory.

Kalamazoo lit the lamp three times in the first period to grab a 3-1 edge after a period of play. The Wings opened the scoring at 5:15 when Mathieu Curadeau netted his 21st score of the season from Andrew Fournier. Cincinnati would even the scores at one each at 9:44 when Jimmy Kilpatrick stole a puck from a Kalamazoo player and ripped a shot over the glove hand of Wings netminder Ryan Nie. Just 19 seconds later, former Cyclone Sam Ftorek netted a goal for the fifth straight game-his 23rd of the campaign at the left post, as Mitch Versteeg and Fournier had the assists. A power play score from Fournier-his 24th-at 15:38 extended the lead to two. Ftorek and Louis Liotti had the assists. Cincinnati outshot Kalamazoo, 15-11, in the stanza.

There was no scoring in the second period, as the Cyclones outshot Kalamazoo-15 to 5. Cincinnati had two power play chances in the frame but was unable to convert either of them.

The Cyclones would close the deficit to 3-2 when Mathieu Aubin collected his 16th goal of the season-and first with Cincinnati-at 2:10 on the power play. Reid Cashman and Barret Ehgoetz had the assists. The game would be tied at three each when Mark Van Guilder collected his fifth of the season from Reid Cashman and Jimmy Kilpatrick at 7:29.

The Wings would deliver the game winning goal on the power play at 9:22 from Fournier-his second of the night-as Ftorek and Trent Daavetilla had the helpers. A pair of empty net goals from Kalamazoo made the game appear more lopsided than the score was. Ftorek and Fournier netted the scores in the final two minutes. The shots again favored Cincinnati, 12-10, for the period and 42-26 for the game.

Ryan Nie took the win-his ECHL-leading 26th triumph of the campaign-stopping 39 shots. Robert Mayer turned away 21 of the 24 shots he faced in the loss. Kalamazoo was two for three on the power play, while Cincinnati was one for four.
