TODAY'S MATCHUP:
One day after closing out their season series with Elmira, the Cyclones will meet the Trenton Devils for the final time in the 2010-11 regular season with this afternoon's 4:00pm tilt at Sun National Bank Center. The Devils took the only other meeting between the two clubs, 5-4 in overtime, on November 5. Marc Cheverie made a career-high 44 saves in that game.
SCOUTING THE DEVILS:
Kevin Dean's club currently dwells in the basement of the Atlantic Division standings, with an 7-7-0-1 record. After last night's 5-2 win against Alaska, the Devils are now 5-4-0-1 in their last 10 games. Ryan Ginand leads their team in scoring, collecting 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) in 14 games this season. Trenton is also working with a pair of new goalies; with Dave Caruso and Jeff Lerg both at the AHL level, the Devils have called upon 6th year netminder Mike Brown to tend the pipes.
MORE "O" FROM THE "D": Both Brian O'Hanley and T.J. Fast continue to rank among the ECHL's most offensively minded defensemen. O'Hanley is tied for 2nd on the Cyclones in scoring with 14 points and is 3rd among all league blue-liners. Fast's 10 points (5 G, 5 A) rank him 6th in that category while his 4 power play goals are tied for the ECHL lead.
OLSON'S FIGHT NIGHT: Cyclones defenseman Benn Olson ranks second among all ECHL players (and leads all defensemen) with 6 fighting majors. Not surprisingly, he is Cincinnati's team leader in PIM, with 50.
PREPARE TO HAVE NO FINGERNAILS: Last season the Cyclones played in 27 games that were decided by a single goal. This year's group is on pace to play in nearly 50 one-goal affairs. Through 19 games in 2010-11, they are 4-3-6 in such situations....which is most of any ECHL team.
