Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals (11-4-4-0) lost 6-2 to the Florida Everblades (11-10-0-0) on Sunday at First Arena, ending a four-game week for the Jackals that saw Elmira stay in first place in the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division.

Andrew Sweetland gave the Jackals a power-play goal at 2:57 of the first period, taking a feed from Patrick Coulombe, who was returned from his loan to the AHL's Binghamton Senators earlier in the day, and flipping the puck into the net to make it 1-0 in favor of Elmira.

The Everblades, however, struck with six-straight goals, with two coming in each period. Matthew Pistilli's wrist shot from the slot at 9:18 gave the Everblades a 1-0 lead, while David Fischer's blue-line shot skipped past Elmira goaltender Marco Cousineau for his first-career goal at 16:07 of the first period.

In the second, Pistilli was found by Mitch Fadden in front, and Pistilli scored his second goal of the game at 2:30 to raise Florida's lead to 3-1. Mike McKenzie scored the first of his two goals on a snap shot from the high slot at 11:19 to give Florida a 4-1 advantage after two periods.

McKenzie cut to the net at 3:35 of the third period with Florida on the power play and lifted the puck over Cousineau's left shoulder to increase the Everblades' lead to 4-1. Cousineau was replaced by Zane Kalemba after the Everblades' fifth tally. Pistilli's left goal-line shot found the net for a hat trick, the first against the Jackals since Feb. 14, 2009.

Brock McBride, who was returned from a month-long loan to the Houston Aeros earlier in the day, redirected a John de Gray shot into the net for his second goal of the season at 10:45 of the third. McBride has points in all six games with Elmira this season (2g-7a).

Bobby Goepfert stopped 32 of 34 Elmira shots to improve to 7-5-0-0 this season. Cousineau fell to 7-3-4-0, making 18 saves on 23 shots. In relief, Kalemba made a save on two shots.

Elmira ended its second-busiest week of November with a pair of victories, with the wins coming on Wednesday against Alaska and Saturday against Cincinnati. The Jackals went 8-3-2-0 in November, improving upon its 3-6-2-1 record in the season's second month last year.

The Jackals head to Reading to take on the Royals in an Atlantic Division battle on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
