Stingrays Snap Streak with 3-2 Victory Over Walleye

North Charleston, SC -The South Carolina Stingrays (7-10-1-0) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Toledo Walleye (6-10-1-1) in front of 2,151 at the North Charleston Coliseum Sunday evening.

The Walleye opened the scoring early in the first period when defenseman Joe Charlebois snuck a wrist shot between the legs of Stingrays goaltender Jared DeMichiel from the right-wing point at 2:32. Forwards Kyle Rodgers and Zack Torquato earned assists. Stingrays forward David de Kastrozza tied the contest on the power play at 9:20 blasting a shot from the right-wing circle under the blocker of Walleye netmider Scott Campbell. Forwards Rob Ricci and Nikita Kashirsky assisted on de Kastrozza's fourth goal of the season.

Walleye winger Mike Hedden made it 2-1 at 11:58 of the second period from forward Evan Rankin and defenseman Tyler Gotto. With Stingrays defenseman Patrick Cullity in the penalty box for slashing, Ricci knotted up the contest at 17:50. Ricci's second shorthanded goal of the season and seventh tally of the year was unassisted.

Stingrays Captain Matt Scherer buried the game-winning goal at 13:56 of the third period tapping in a rebound under the right arm of Campbell from forward Jordan Pietrus and Ricci.

DeMichiel improved to 4-4-0-0 making 21 saves on 23 Walleye shots. Campbell suffered the loss blocking 27 of 30 Stingrays chances. The Stingrays ended the night 1-for-5 on the power play while Toledo went 0-for-6.
