TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: For the second time in four days, the Cyclones will face-off against the Kalamazoo Wings as they once again work to snap their losing skid - which now stands at four games. Cincinnati fell to Elmira by a 3-1 count last night and remains just one point behind second place Chicago. And although the Express play tonight as well, a win could set the Cyclones up to surpass their Windy City rivals before they head there tomorrow night. Against Kalamazoo this season, the Clones are 4-6-0 but have kept things close; in the 10 meetings so far, all but three have been decided by two goals or less (including three straight).
TONIGHT'S PROMOTION: CYCLONES ZAMBANK NIGHT / $1 JOHN MORRELL HOT DOGS / PUCKS N PINTS: The first 1,500 fans ages 2-12 will receive a limited edition Cyclones ZamBank! Plus, all fans can enjoy John Morrell Hot Dogs for just $1! And, a pre-game beer tasting is available for purchase!
SCOUTING THE WINGS: With a win over Cincinnati on Tuesday, Nick Bootland's club padded its lead in the North Division standings and now sits 10 points ahead of the Clones. Trent Daavettila had a pair of goals in the Valentines Day matchup, giving him an ECHL sixth-best 51 points in 49 games. His assist totals (39) rank second most among all players. Riley Gill remains one of the league's top goaltenders with a 19-9-1-3 record. His 19 wins are second-most among in the ECHL while his 2.83 goals-against average is 13th best. Along the blue line, Sam Ftorek and Mike Matczak have been two of the best offensive producers. Ftorek, a former Cyclone, has 30 points (9 goals, 21 assists) while Matczak has 28 tallies - both rank among the top seven among ECHL rear guards.
About Last Night vs. Elmira: Jackals defenseman Nick Schaus broke a 1-1 tie late in the third period while Dustin Gazley added an empty netter to give the Jackals a 3-1 victory over the Cyclones in front of 2,374 at U.S. Bank Arena. Garrett Wilson registered the lone tally for Cincinnati.
Cracking the Top 10: Mathieu Aubin and Matt Sisca have registered 45 and 44 points respectively this year and now are among the ECHL's top ten scorers. Sisca is also 2nd among active ECHL rookies in points and second in assists (29).
The Closers: Cincinnati is 11-2-1-3 when carrying a lead into the third period. Not surprisingly, they have allowed the fourth-fewest third period goals of any team in the ECHL (44).
