Chicago Express News Release

Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, saw their third period comeback fall just short, falling to the Gwinnett Gladiators 4-3 at the Sears Centre Arena on Friday night.

Neither team scored in the first period despite Gwinnett committing 5 penalties in the frame and the Express holding a 12-3 shot advantage. The scoring got underway 14:07 into the second period when Gladiators F Tyler Murovich chopped at a rebound that went right over the pads of G Peter Mannino. Just 11 seconds later C Nikita Kashirsky took advantage of a sprawled out Mannino off of another rebound and increased the lead to 2-0. The Express answered back with a goal at 14:52 when D Evan Stephens fired a one-timer from F Maxime Gratchev over the blocker of G Joe Palmer.

Just 46 seconds into the third period the Express tied it up when LW Pierre-Luc Faubert took a pass from D Darcy Campbell and rung it off of a post and into the net for his 15th on the season. Gwinnett came back with two straight special teams goals, as D Brad Miller scored on the power play at 4:39, and Murovich collected a shorthanded goal at 12:42 to take a 4-2 lead. The Express came right back on the same power play, as F Maxime Gratchev buried a wrap around to bring Chicago back to within one goal with 6:12 left in the game. RW Chaz Johnson nearly evened up the score, as he rang a shot off the post late in the game, but the Gladiators held on to take down the Express 4-3.
