ECHL Kalamazoo Wings

Countdown to Face-Off

February 17, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

For the second-time this week, the Kalamazoo Wings will battle the Cincinnati Cyclones; however, this time the encounter will occur at the U.S. Bank Arena. On Tuesday, Kalamazoo defeated Cincinnati 4-3 during the 12th Annual Pink Ice Game, presented by WWMT and WKFR.

Winners of two straight and four out of their last five games, the K-Wings have increased their lead in the North Division to nine points over the Chicago Express. After a brief road trip tonight, Kalamazoo will return to Wings Stadium to begin a four-game home stand.

Seeking to avenge a loss to Kalamazoo earlier in the week, Cincinnati also enters the contest looking to snap a streak. The Cyclones hit the ice trying to snap a four-game winless (0-3-1-0) streak. With 51 points, Cincinnati is in third place in the North Division, one points behind Chicago.

Lightening Quick

Scoring seven seconds into the K-Wings game on Tuesday, forward Eric Kattelus set a K-Wings ECHL record for fastest goal to start a game. The tally was two seconds short of the organization's overall record of five seconds set by Mike Berger on January 27, 1989, when Kalamazoo was a member of the International Hockey League.

Nearing a Milestone

For the second straight game Trent Daavettila is closing in on a personal milestone. Last Tuesday, Daavettila recorded his 200th career point and with his first shift of tonight's game, the forward will have played in his 200th career game.

On a Roll

Forward Nick Sirota has earned points in four straight games. The four-game point streak is the longest current point streak by a member of the K-Wings.

Get Shorty

The K-Wings can make claim to something that no other team in the ECHL can make, they have scored shorthanded against the Cyclones. Cincinnati has allowed two shorthanded goals this season, both of which have come against Kalamazoo.
