Cyclones fire on all cylinders in win

July 24, 2008 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

The Cyclones defeated Vermont 8-1, behind power hitting and a dominant pitching performance by Brad Holt. Holt had one of the great pitching performances in Cyclones history, as he tied the single-game Cyclones record by striking out 14 batters, and also becomes the second Cyclones pitcher ever to strike out 10 batters twice in a season (RHP Jeff Landing was the other pitcher in 2005). Brooklyn has won two straight games and improves their record to 17-19.

After Holt's six shutout innings, RHP Chris Schwinden and RHP Wendy Rosa followed to combine for the final three frames, allowing just one run. The Cyclones struck out a season-high 18 batters.

Offensively, Brooklyn belted four extra-base hits. 3B Eric Campbell led the way, going 4-for-4, while hitting a three-run home run and scoring a pair of runs. 2B J.R. Voyles also scored a pair of runs and hit a two-run home run while going 2-for-3. 1B Jose Jimenez made his Cyclones debut going 1-for-3, with a double and two RBI.

The Cyclones start another series against the rival Staten Island Yankees on Friday, July 25th. Friday is FDNY Night at KeySpan Park, and will also feature a spectacular post-game fireworks show.
