Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters dropped a 6-5 decision in 11 innings against the West Virginia Black Bears on Wednesday night. The Cutters would chip away at an early 5-0 deficit to score five unanswered runs before falling just short. Williamsport holds a six game lead over West Virginia for second place in the Pinckney Division with five games left in the regular season.
The Black Bears scored five runs over the first two innings against Cutters starter Franklyn Kilome. West Virginia showed patience in the bottom of the first inning as they sent seven batters to the plate. Kilome would walk three batters while allowing three hits to fall behind 3-0. Ty Moore gave the Black Bears a 5-0 lead in the second with a two RBI single after a balk by Kilome moved two runners into scoring position.
Trailing 5-0 entering the top of the third inning, the Cutters would score a pair of runs to cut their deficit to 5-2. Austin Bossart kicked off the inning with a single and William Cuicas would follow with a double. Bossart would score on a RBI single by Zach Coppola and Cuicas scored on a SAC fly from Josh Tobias. Feliberto Sanchez took over for Kilome to start the third inning. Sanchez would turn in a career performance for the Cutters in relief.
Sanchez worked four innings of scoreless baseball and would allow just one hit to keep Williamsport in the game. Sanchez tied a career high by striking out seven batters while walking just two. Carlos Duran started the Cutters rally in the top of the seventh inning with a lead-off home run to make it 5-3. Venn Biter would pull the Cutters within a run two batters later clubbing his second triple of the year to score Zach Coppola from second base. A wild pitch from West Virginia allowed Biter to score from third base to tie the game 5-5. Both teams would trade scoreless innings before the Black Bears would score the winning run on a walk off single in the 11th inning.
