
Brooklyn Takes Game One of Doubleheader

NORWICH, CT-The Connecticut Tigers (32-35) dropped the first game of a doubleheader with the Brooklyn Cyclones (32-38) on Wednesday night 7-1.
Connecticut jumped on the scoreboard first in the second inning. With two-outs catcher Shane Zeile doubled off of Cyclones starter Eddie Villasmil (1-2) and then scored on an RBI single by right fielder Tanner Donnels (2-3, RBI) to make it 1-0.
Josh Heddinger (2-1) started the game well for Connecticut as he retired the fist ten, but he ran into trouble in the Cyclones fourth. Second basemen Vinny Siena (1-3, 2 RBI, R) singled with one-out and moved to second on a base hit by third basemen David Thompson (2-4, 2 R). With two-outs in the inning centerfielder Desmond Lindsay came through with a two RBI base hit.
Brooklyn extended their lead in the fifth with two more runs and put it away in the sixth against reliever Matt Davenport. Thompson started the inning with a single and would later score on a two-run double by catcher Jose Garcia. Brooklyn added another run in the inning as Garcia scored on a wild pitch giving the Cyclones a 7-1 advantage.
Villasmil registered the win as he went six innings and gave up just six hits and one run while striking out two and walking one. PJ Conlon finished things up in the seventh and has not allowed a run in his 16 innings of work this year.
Heddinger ended his night after five innings giving up five hits and four runs. He struck out three and walked one. Davenport struggled in his inning of work allowing three runs and three hits. Jose Lopez made his Connecticut debut working a perfect seventh.
Connecticut will play the third game of a four game series tomorrow at home against the Brooklyn Cyclones. The first pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
