Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

GAME HIGHLIGHTS: August 10, 2011 - The Williamsport Crosscutters scored four unanswered runs Wednesday night to top the Staten Island Yankees 5-4 in a tight game at Historic Bowman Field.

The Yankees jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on a two-out RBI single by Tyler Austin. The Cutters immediately answered in the bottom of the frame on a leadoff home run by Pete Lavin.

Staten Island regained the lead in the second, as Mason Williams' two-run triple to center made it a 3-1 game. They tacked on another in the fourth on a run-scoring double play to go up 4-1 off Cutters starter Lino Martinez.

Williamsport scratched out a run in the bottom of the third, as Aaron Altherr singled, stole two bases, and scored on Bob Stumpo's second hit of the evening to make it 4-2. The home team trimmed the deficit to 4-3 in the fourth, as Francisco Diaz doubled and scored two batters later on a double by Lavin. They tied it up one inning later, as Altherr walked, stole second, and scored on another RBI single by Stumpo to make it 4-4.

The Cutters took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the eighth, as Diaz singled home pinch-runner Luis Unda from second base to give his team a 5-4 advantage. That score would be the final, as Juary Gomez retired the Yankees 1-2-3 in the ninth, aided by a spectacular diving grab in right by Lavin.

These two teams will complete the three-game series here on Thursday at 7:05pm. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com
