-SPIKES CONTINUE SERIES AGAINST ABERDEEN: The State College Spikes are in the midst a six-game stretch of games against out-of-division opponents at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, and tonight play the second game of a three-game series against the Aberdeen IronBirds. State College is 5-10 against Aberdeen all-time, and 3-4 all-time at home.
-LAST GAME: Mike Jefferson went five shutout innings on the mound, and the Spikes scored all of their runs with the bases loaded to down the IronBirds, 5-2, on Tuesday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Chris Lashmet brought in a pair of runs for State College with the bags filled in the first inning to give the Spikes a 2-0 lead, with Junior Sosa adding a bases-clearing double in the fourth inning to complete the State College scoring.
-KINGHAM STARTS FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Nick Kingham makes the start for the Spikes tonight after allowing just one unearned run over five innings in his last start against Jamestown. The fourth-round pick of the Pirates in 2010, Kingham has gone five innings in each of his last five starts, and has not allowed more than one run in any of them. The Las Vegas, NV native has a 22-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio at home this season.
-WILSON MAKES SECOND START FOR IRONBIRDS: Aberdeen right-hander Tyler Wilson makes just his second start and fourth overall appearance in the Orioles' system tonight when he takes the ball for the IronBirds. Wilson allowed on run on four hits while striking out four in his first outing for Aberdeen, a no-decision against Lowell on Thursday.
-GONZALEZ AND MESA NAMED TO NYPL ALL-STAR GAME: Spikes catcher Samuel Gonzalez and outfielder Carlos Mesa have each been named to the National League squad for the 2011 New York-Penn League All-Star Game next Tuesday in Lowell. Gonzalez will be the sole Spike playing in the game, though, as Mesa will not play due to injury.
