Jammers Salvage Doubleheader Split with Connecticut

Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - After having their bats silenced for the ï¬Ârst 12 innings on Wednesday, the Jamestown offense came alive with a pair of four-run innings to salvage a doubleheader split with the Connecticut Tigers at Dodd Stadium.
The Jammers fell in the ï¬Ârst game of the doubleheader, 6-0, before prevailing in game two, 8-4, after Connecticut committed three errors to enable the comeback. The day's results move Jamestown to 28-25, which is fourth in the Pinckney Division.
In the opener, nothing went right for Jamestown as the offense was limited to just two hits in seven innings, and Connecticut jumped out to an early lead to cruise to the victory.
Tyler Collins, Dean Green and Javier Azcona each had a RBI double with Azcona's plating two runs to put the game out of reach in the ï¬Ârst inning.
The Tigers added insurance runs in the second and third on an Aaron Westlake RBI double and a solo homer by Azcona, which was more than enough for starting pitcher Wilsen Palacios.
In a complete game effort, Palacios allowed just two hits and walked one to even his record at 3-3. On the other side, Jose Urena took the loss after giving up six earned in six innings.
It looked like it would be a repeat of the ï¬Ârst game in the nightcap until the sixth inning. The Jamestown offense was struggling and Connecticut was leading 4-0, but it all changed on a series of miscues.
Brian McConkey had a one out single, Josh Adams reached on a throwing error on a force attempt and Jobduan Morales walked to load the bases. Nestor Castillo grounded into a ï¬Âelder's choice, but the double play throw was wide, which allowed McConkey and Adams to score and sent Castillo to second.
Then, Eddie Rodriguez roped a RBI double before getting pinch run for by Marquise Cooper. Kentrell Dewitt followed with a single to center to tie the game.
After making the comeback, the game went to extras and Jamestown put up another four runs in the eighth.
Adams started it with a walk and scored the go-ahead run on a double by Morales. Castillo tacked on a RBI single before Dewitt walked. Rand Smith then plated two runs on a single and two-base error to put the game out of reach.
Chase Wier earned the win after pitching a scoreless seventh and giving up just one hit. The all- star reliever is now 4-1. Offensively, Rodriguez and Morales paced the team with a double, while eight of the nine starters ï¬Ânished with a base hit.
The two teams will wrap up the series Thursday at 7:05 p.m. before Jamestown returns home to host Lowell Friday.
