Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters ended their six game home stand with a 3-3 record after picking up a 7-4 win against the Vermont Lake Monsters on Sunday afternoon at Susquehanna Bank Park. The Cutters win the series 2-1 and keep hold of first place in the Pinckney Division.
The Crosscutters opened up the game with a run in the bottom of the first inning after Zach Copppola singled to right field. Coppola moved to third base on a throwing error by Vermont Starter Kyle Friedrichs. Mark Laird brought Coppola in with a ground out to the second baseman to make it 1-0. Williamsport would see the game get tied up in the top of the third inning off a Lake Monsters sacrifice fly.
Williamsport took their second lead of the game in the top of the fourth inning as Jose Pujols picked up his league best 13th double of the season to score a pair of runners. Laird and Josh Tobias scored on the play to make it a 3-1 game. The Cutters kept things rolling in the fifth inning as Tobias delivered a two RBI double to make it 6-1. Laird also singled in a run for his second RBI of the game.
Vermont scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning against Cutters reliever Kenny Koplove to cut the lead to 6-4. Koplove worked a pair of scoreless innings prior to the seventh including the fifth inning where he entered with two runners on base and nobody out. Williamsport rounded out the scoring in the bottom half of the inning as they executed the double steal with runners on the corners to take a 7-4 lead. The Cutters sit in first place in the Pinckney Division with a five game lead over second place West Virginia after they lost to Connecticut 4-2 on the road.
