
Black Bears Drop Series Finale, But Win Series against Connecticut Tigers

West Virginia Black Bears News Release
The West Virginia Black Bears won a series against the Connecticut Tigers by winning two of the three games of the series at Dodd Stadium. The Black Bears picked up a 7-1 victory over the Tigers on Friday, July 31 before winning on Saturday August 1 over Connecticut 7-6. On Sunday, August 2, the Black Bears fell to the Tigers 4-2, giving West Virginia an overall record of 22-20.
July 31 - Brubaker lights out in West Virginia's 7-1 win over Connecticut
The Black Bears and Tigers were tied at 1-1 before West Virginia's offense tacked on three runs in the seventh before adding three more in the ninth. SS Kevin Newman blasted his second home run of the season with a line drive to left field and finished with two RBI while RF Logan Hill picked up his league-leading 33rd RBI in Friday night's victory over Connecticut. SP Jonathan Brubaker had a strong outing, tossing 5.0 scoreless innings with four strikeouts to earn the win (4-3).
August 1 - Black Bears club 12 hits in 7-6 victory over Tigers
1B Albert Baur was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with an RBI during the twelve hit performance by the Black Bears. West Virginia trailed the Tigers 6-4 after just two innings but continued to chip away as the bullpen pitched 7.2 scoreless innings to hold Connecticut to six runs. RP Daniel Zamora picked up his first win (1-0) of the season after tossing 2.0 innings.
August 2 - Connecticut wins 4-2 over Black Bears in series finale
RF Logan Hill added to his New-York Penn League leading RBI total, driving in his 34th run this season with a double in the third inning. The Black Bears were scoreless until the ninth inning when C Daniel Arribas delivered an RBI single to right but the late inning rally push wasn't enough to top the Tigers. SP Dario Agrazal was tagged with the loss (4-3) after pitching 5.0 innings, allowing eight hits and four runs (three earned). RP Eric Dorsch and Julio Eusebio combined to pitch the final three innings, putting up scoreless frames and combining for four strikeouts.

The Black Bears now return home to host a six-game home stand beginning on Monday, August 3 with a series against the Auburn Doubledays, followed by three games with the State College Spikes. On Monday, it will be Military Appreciation Day at the ballpark followed by a Pirates Themed Giveaway on Tuesday. Wednesday evening will be Bark in the Park, where fans are welcomed to bring their furry friends to Monongalia County Ballpark.
