
Hudson Valley Falls in Sunday's Series Finale to Auburn

Auburn, NY (8/2/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades fell in the series finale to the Auburn Doubledays on Sunday afternoon by a score of 8-5 at Falcon Park.
After a scoreless first inning, Auburn picked up four runs to take a 4-0 lead. A RBI double from shortstop Edwin Lora and RBI singles from catcher Jorge Tillero and second baseman Dalton Dulin highlighted the inning for the Doubledays.
The Renegades responded by scoring two runs in the top of the third inning to cut the Auburn lead to 4-2. Hudson Valley's shortstop Jake Cronenworth led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a single by right fielder Cade Gotta. After a ground ball from left fielder Joe McCarthy advanced the runners to second and third, first baseman Matt Dacey brought home Cronenworth on a RBI sacrifice fly. Designated hitter Manny Sanchez followed with a RBI triple to score Gotta.
Hudson Valley tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the fourth inning when catcher Danny De La Calle drove in a run on a RBI single and scored later in the inning when Gotta grounded into a double play. Auburn scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Dulin tripled and scored on right fielder Rhett Wiseman's RBI single, giving the Doubledays a 5-4 lead.
Auburn took an 8-4 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two-run single by Lora and a RBI single from center fielder Victor Robles. The Renegades added a run in the ninth inning when Cronenworth tripled and scored on a RBI single from McCarthy.
Hudson Valley's starting pitcher Cameron Varga (1-3) took the loss as he allowed five runs and two earned runs in five innings of work while striking out six batters.
Jefry Rodriguez (2-4) earned the win for the Doubledays as he gave up four runs in five innings of work. With the result, the Renegades fell to 20-21 while the Doubledays improved their record to 20-21.
Notes: Jake Cronenworth reached base five times on the afternoon as the Renegades shortstop went three-for-three with a pair of walks and two runs scored. He has reached base successfully in 13 of his last 14 games played and has hit safely in 11 of those contests. The St. Clair, Michigan native leads the Renegades with a .423 on-base percentage and is second on the team in runs scored with 21.
