Cutters Drop 2-1 Decision to Connecticut in Series Finale
July 13, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters looked to sweep the Connecticut Tigers on Monday night at Susquehanna Bank Park to run their winning streak to five games. The Tigers would however have different plans as they would hang on for a 2-1 win. Williamsport finishes their six game home stand with a 4-2 record and is now 13-2 at home this season.
The Cutters would fall behind in the top of the third inning against the Tigers. Luis Morales allowed four hits in the inning with the big hit coming off the bat of Christin Stewart. Stewart lined a triple down the right field line that rolled all the way to the wall giving his team a 2-0 lead. Morales would make it through the third inning before Williamsport made a call to the bullpen. Connecticut starter Tyler Alexander would go three innings as well but allow just one hit, which came off of Brendon Hayden in the second inning.
Williamsport received a brilliant effort from their bullpen getting three scoreless innings from Feliberto Sanchez. Sanchez allowed just two hits while striking out two batters. Andrew Godail would go on to strike out three batters over two innings of work. Skylar Hunter rounded out the pitching on the night, working a scoreless ninth inning for the Cutters striking out one batter and allowing two hits.
The Cutters would break up the shutout in the bottom of the seventh inning on a RBI groundout by Gregori Rivero to make it a 2-1 game. Williamsport loaded the bases after two walks and a single by Josh Tobias only to see their rally end on a pop up to second base by Grenny Cumana. Morales suffered his second loss of the season falling to 0-2 through three starts. Brendon Hayden lead the way offensively for the Cutters going 2 for 4.
