The Cyclones left their bats on the beach for this Monday matinee and as a result, they were shut out for the first time this season.

With multi-colored children's camp groups and 6,046 fans in total scattered across MCU Park, Brooklyn fell to the Aberdeen IronBirds by a 2-0 score and dropped a series for the first time in the 2015 season. The Cyclones managed just four singles against six IronBird pitchers including five relievers. Gaby Almonte (2-2, 3.07) takes the hard luck loss after tossing seven solid innings and allowing just two runs.

Almonte began his afternoon breezing through the Aberdeen lineup the first time around. He ran into some trouble in the fourth inning when he surrendered back to back doubles, drawing first blood for the IronBirds. Two sacrifice flies later, Aberdeen held a 2-0 advantage. Regaining his composure, the Cyclones' pitcher went on to allow just four hits in total over his seven innings of work, while striking out three and not walking a single batter. It was Almonte's fewest hit total in his longest outing of the season, noting a steady improvement from the young right hander.

The Cyclone offense, on the other hand, never found a way to get going against a myriad of Aberdeen arms. After starter Francisco Jimenez tossed three innings of two-hit ball, it was four left-handed relievers that would give the Brooklyn lineup fits for the next five innings with Kevin Grendell ultimately collecting the win. Ryan Meisinger closed it with a perfect ninth for his fourth save of the season. Brooklyn's offensive struggles allowed them to get only three runners to second base all game, with none of them ever reaching third.

The chances were there for Brooklyn but the Boys of Summer were unable to capitalize. A two-out rally was cut short in the fifth after Manuel Hilario was thrown out going from second to third on an infield hit. The 'Clones also had the leadoff man on in the sixth after a Tucker Tharp walk but Michael Bernal hit into a double play, erasing the threat. Tom Gamboa's squad wouldn't muster another hit over the course of the final three innings.

One silver lining for the Cyclones has to be the work of their bullpen. Two more scoreless innings from P.J. Conlon and Cory Taylor lowers the bullpen ERA to 1.08 on the season. Taylor and Conlon are both yet to allow a run in twelve innings combined this season.

After an off day Tuesday, southpaw Blake Taylor (0-0, 0.00) takes the mound for Brooklyn on Wednesday in Staten Island. The Cyclones return home on Thursday, July 16th when NYPL strikeout leader Matt Blackham (2-0, 3.09) takes the mound for the only home game of a three-game series versus the Staten Island Yankees. The Cyclones will also be celebrating Irish Heritage Night at the ballpark and the first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a Shamrock jersey in honor of Jersday Thursday.
