Black Bears Come up Short in Series against Vermont After a Six-Game Road Trip

The West Virginia Black Bears dropped a series against the Vermont Lake Monsters after winning 7-3 on Saturday, losing 5-4 on Sunday and dropping Monday's game 4-2 at Centennial Field. The Black Bears now have an overall record of 10-13 this season as Vermont now has a 10-13 overall record as well.

July 11 - Black Bears take down Lake Monsters 7-3 after late rally

The West Virginia offense used a pair of three-run innings in the late innings to take the 7-3 victory over Vermont on Saturday. RF Logan Hill collected his third home run of the season, which came as a three-run shot in the ninth. 2B Kevin Kramer went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored while 3B Mitchell Tolman drove in a pair of runs on a double to center field in the eighth inning. SP Dario Agrazal had a strong start on the mound for the Black Bears, but RP Edgar Santana picked up his first win of the season (1-0) after tossing two scoreless innings of relief. RP Andy Otamendi pitched the final two innings of the game to record his second save this season.

July 12 - West Virginia ousted by Vermont, 5-4

The Black Bears jumped out to an early lead after 1B Albert Baur delivered an RBI single in the first. In the second inning, CF Casey Hughston knocked an RBI double to right and DH Ulises Montilla drove in two runs on a double hit to deep left field. West Virginia couldn't hold the 4-0 advantage though as they surrendered the lead in the seventh inning. P Cesilio Pimentel was given his first start of the season and hurled 5.0 innings, allowing three runs and striking out four. RP Eric Dorsch was tagged with the loss (1-1) after pitching just one inning and allowing the go-ahead run in the seventh.

July 13 - Vermont scores late to defeat Black Bears 4-2

The two teams were scoreless until the Lake Monsters crossed the first run of the game in the fifth inning on a ground ball. The Black Bears answered back in the top of the sixth when LF Ty Moore hit a hard single to left field scoring both SS Kevin Newman and 2B Kevin Kramer. Vermont tied the game in sixth on another ground ball before delivering a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth. SP Seth McGarry made his first start as a Black Bear, pitching five innings of one-run ball while striking out four. RP Sean Keselica (0-1) received the loss after allowing the go-ahead homer in the eighth.

The Black Bears return home on Wednesday, July 15 as they being a series with the State College Spikes at Monongalia County Ballpark with a first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m.
