Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters snapped a two game losing streak and avoided a series sweep at the hands of the Batavia Muckdogs on Saturday night at Dwyer Stadium. The Cutters took their first lead of the series in the top of the second inning and wouldn't look back. The Cutters magic number for clinching the division drops to three with the win. West Virginia defeated Mahoning Valley to keep it from dropping to two. The Cutters lead the Black Bears by seven games for first place in the Pinckney Division.
The Cutters jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning against Batavia starter Dillion Peters. Dylan Bosheers gave the Cutters the lead with his RBI single that would score Brendon Hayden from Second base. Hayden lead off the inning with a single for the Cutters first hit of the night. The Momentum would carry into the fourth inning for Williamsport.
Hayden kicked off the fourth inning with his third home run of the season as he drove a ball over the right field wall to make it 2-0. Williamsport would add three more runs to their lead in the top of the fifth inning. Josh Tobias picked up his 17th double of the season to make 3-0. A fielding error later in the inning would allow Tobias to score to make it 4-0. Bosheers looking to pick up his second RBI of the night would do so as he worked a walk with the bases loaded to stretch the Cutters lead to 5-0.
Batavia would make things interesting in the bottom half of the inning against Cutters starter Mitch Gueller. Gueller came into the inning pitching a shutout after working out of some earlier jams. A pair of walks to start the inning would give the Muckdogs some life and they would trim into the lead with a three run home run to make it 5-3. The Cutters offense would have a response to the rally as Hayden picked up his third hit of the night in the sixth inning while driving in a pair of runners to make it 7-3. Hayden finished the night a triple shy of the cycle going 3 for 4.
