Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
The Scrappers hoped to wrap up their six-game road trip with a win, but came up short falling to the Black Bears 7-3 on Saturday night in front of 2,908 at Monongalia County Ballpark.
The Scrappers scored first on an RBI single for Daniel Salters to score Ka'ai Tom. Tom extended his hit streak to 12 games with a single in the first.
West Virginia got to Scrappers starter Sam Hentges for two in the bottom of the second. Albert Baur doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly for Mitchell Tolman. Casey Hughston singled earlier in the inning, and scored on a single for Christian Kelley.
The Scrappers added two in the top of the third. Daniel Salters ripped a double down the right field line to score Willi Castro and Tom.
Sam Hentges allowed four runs in the bottom of the third. Ty Moore tripled to right center to score Daniel Arribas. Moore later scored on an error by Castro. Ke'Bryan Hayes scored on a Hughston sacrifice fly to center. Albert Baur scored on a Tolman single to center.
Hentges took the loss and went 2.2 inning and gave up six earned runs on five hits and walked five.
Ryan Perez went 2.2 innings and allowed just one hit and did not allow a run.
Mahoning Valley opens a four-game series with State College on Sunday with a doubleheader. The first game is at 3:05 and features Jared Robinson against Jacob Evans. The second game will begin about 25 minutes after the completion of the first game.
