Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - Monday afternoon's game between the Altoona Curve and the Richmond Flying Squirrels has been suspended with Richmond leading, 6-3, in the bottom of the fourth inning due to inclement weather in the Altoona area. The game will be picked up where it left off on August 26th at Blair County Ballpark. The game will be completed starting at 5:30 p.m. and then the two teams will play the regularly scheduled game of seven innings 30 minutes after the completion of the first game.
Those holding tickets for Monday's suspended game versus Richmond (July 12) can exchange them for ticket (s) to any remaining 2010 Altoona Curve home game for equal or lesser value based on availability.
Altoona jumped out to an early lead in Monday afternoon's game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning in support of starting pitcher Tim Alderson. Jordy Mercer, who delivered the game-winning RBI hit on Sunday night, plated Altoona's first run of the game on Monday when he singled in Shelby Ford from second to give the Curve a, 1-0, lead.
Miles Durham came to the plate four batters later with the bases loaded against Squirrels starter Craig Westcott and singled to the base of the left-field wall to bring home Mercer and Kris Watts to run Altoona's lead to, 3-0.
The lead would be short-lived as Richmond answered back in the second with three runs of its own to tie the game. A RBI single by Clay Timpner brought home Brandon Belt for the first run of the frame and then Ryan Lormand tied it two batters later when he singled with the bases loaded to drive in a pair.
In the third it was once again Timpner delivering the hit with an RBI double that scored Belt and Conor Gillaspie to put Richmond ahead, 5-3. The pitcher Westcott helped his own cause by doubling to right field with two away to bring Timpner around and give the Squirrels a three-run advantage.
The third inning would be the last inning Alderson worked as he allowed the six runs (five earned) on seven hits.
Altoona's bottom of the fourth started with promise as Miles Durham drew a leadoff walk from Westcott and Anthony Norman singled to put runners at the corners with no one out. Dustin Molleken, who pitched the top of the fourth, placed a sacrifice bunt down to move Norman to second before the rains came and sent the game into a delay.
Pitchers Derek Hankins and Rudy Owens along with Josh Harrison, Matt Hague, Hector Gimenez and Chase d'Arnaud will all participate in Wednesday night's E.L. All-Star Game at Metro Bank Park in Harrisburg. Altoona will resume play on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Harrisburg when RHP Jared Hughes (10-6, 4.27) takes the mound for the Curve and LHP Aaron Thompson (4-10, 5.68) throws for Harrisburg.
Pregame coverage will begin at 6:30 p.m. on flagship ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network.
