Harrisburg Senators News Release

A four-run eighth inning pushed the Harrisburg Senators past the Reading Phillies on Monday afternoon at First Energy Stadium in Reading, and gave the Sens a three games to one victory in the series. It was the second consecutive 3-1 series win for the Senators (44-47), following up their victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels at Metro Bank Park last week.

The four runs in the eighth all came with two outs, on five consecutive hits. Brad Coon started the rally with a single, and then Michael Martinez moved him to second with another single. Coon scored on a single by Marvin Lowrance, and then Jesus Valdez doubled in both Martinez and Lowrance. Chris Marrero then singled home Valdez, to complete the rally and put the Sens in front 5-3.

Reading (44-45) had taken the lead with a single run in the second inning, and two in the fifth, all off of Sens starter Andrew Kown. Kown pitched five innings, allowed eight hits and three runs, and took a no-decision. Freddy Galvis drove in the run in the second with a groundout, while Matt Rizzotti hit his 12th home run of the season in the fifth to make it 3-1.

The Sens struck first in the game, scoring once in the first inning off of Reading starter Yohan Flande. Flande pitched seven innings, allowing just that one run, but had to settle for the no-decision thanks to the big eighth inning from the Sens. Valdez drove in the run in the first, with a sacrifice fly that brought home Martinez.

Reliever Joe Bisenius (3-0) faced one batter in the seventh inning, and got the win for the Sens. Sergio Escalona gave up three of the four runs in the eighth, and was saddled with the loss to fall to 1-6. Chuck James earned his second save by recording the final out in the ninth inning.

The Eastern League All-Star Game is the next game on the league schedule, and will be played at Metro Bank Park in Harrisburg on Wednesday evening at 7:05 PM. Limited seating is still available for the contest; fans can call 717-231-4444, log on to www.senatorsbaseball.com, or stop in to the team box office for ticket information.
