'Wolves Split Series with Aeros

The SeaWolves won their second straight and picked up a series split with a 4-2 win over the Akron Aeros at Jerry Uht Park on Monday night in the final game before the All-Star break.

Erie got on the board in the bottom of the third against Akron starter Eric Berger. Andy Dirks led off with his 100th hit of the season. Justin Henry Walked putting two on for Audy Ciriaco. Ciriaco grounded out and the runners both advanced to scoring position. Rawley Bishop stepped in and blasted his third home run of the season over the wall in left for a 3-0 lead.

The 'Wolves added to their lead in the sixth against reliever Bryan Price. Deik Scram walked with one out, stole second and moved to third on an error. Andy Bouchie hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Scram for a 4-0 Erie lead.

Erie starter Thad Weber had a shutout going into the eighth inning before the Aeros got on the board with two outs. John Drennen singled to right with two outs and Matt McBride hit his 13th home run over the wall in left, cutting the Erie lead in half at 4-2.

The 'Wolves turned the ball over to Lester Oliveros in the top of the ninth. He allowed a four-pitch walk to Carlos Rivero bringing the tying run to the plate. Oliveros induced a fly ball off the bat of Tim Fedroff and got a game ending 4-6-3 double play, preserving the Erie win, picking up his first save.

Weber (6-9) has won back-to-back games for the first time this season. He equaled a season-high with eight innings pitched, allowing two runs on eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts. In consecutive outings and in three of his last four starts, Weber did not allow a free pass.
