Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA - The Altoona Curve were yet again unable to crack the code of the Binghamton Mets on Monday at Blair County Ballpark, stumbling by the final score of 7-3.
The victory for Binghamton (46-36) is the fourth in five tries against Altoona this year. With the loss, the Curve (35-46) has now dropped six of their last eight contests.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom fourth, the Curve were able to grab their only lead of the game, with a pair of runs. Jason Delaney's RBI single scored Jonel Pacheco, and James Boone provided a sacrifice fly that brought home Jason Bowers to put Altoona in front 2-1.
The lead was short-lived, though. Starter Luis Munoz (1-2) allowed the first three Binghamton batters to reach in the top of the sixth by way of a walk and single before Ambiorix Concepcion tripled home the pair to put the B-Mets up 3-2. That knocked Munoz out of the game, and in relief Dave Davidson surrendered a pair of run-producing hits which put Binghamton up 5-2.
Munoz lasted five innings and allowed four runs on six hits. The right-hander, pitching in his third game of the year for Altoona, also walked five batters and struck out four.
Off of reliever Juan Mateo in the top of the eighth, Binghamton's Emmanuel Garcia blasted a two-run home run to take a 7-2 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, Bower's RBI groundout would give Altoona their final run of the night to make the score 7-3.
Binghamton's Bobby Parnell (8-4) held the Curve bats to two runs on four hits over 6 2/3 innings.
The Curve will look to get back on the winning track on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Altoona will turn the ball over to right-hander Derek Hankins (1-4, 3.68) while Binghamton will send righty Jose Sanchez (7-4, 4.15) to the hill.
Great seats to Tuesday's game, which will feature Atlantic Broadband Dollar Hot Dogs on a Pre-Independence Day Picnic, are still available. Fans can call 877-99-CURVE, log on to AltoonaCurve.com or stop by in person at the Blair County Ballpark Box Office.
NOTES - Jonel Pacheco collected another pair of hits on Monday. It's the third straight multi-hit game for Pacheco, who now has a five-game hitting streak (.421, 8-for-19)...Shelby Ford went 0-for-4 on Tuesday which snapped his season-high eight-game hitting streak.
