Chesapeake Baysox News Release
(Harrisburg, PA) - Lou Montanez collected three hits and drove in four runs, including his 16th homerun of the season, as the Baysox pummeled the Senators 8-2 Monday night. Bowie starter Jason Berken threw a gem in his second straight start to improve to 6-3 on the year.
The Baysox got started right away with a run in the top of the first on a walk by Carlos Rojas and an RBI double off the bat of Lou Montanez.
The Senators responded with runs in each of their next two turns at bat. Mike Daniel led off the bottom of the first with a double to center field. Bill Rhinehart was able to drive him in with a base hit to right. Catcher Devin Ivany led off the bottom of the second inning with a solo homerun to give Harrisburg a 2-1 lead.
Bowie turned up the heat in the top of the fifth inning. Ryan Finan got hit by a pitch to lead things off and Sebastien Boucher moved him to third with a base hit. Blake Davis brought Finan in to score with a sacrifice fly to right field to tie the game at 2-2. With two outs, Boucher stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by Ivany. Carlos Rojas drew a walk to put runners on the corners and Lou Montanez crushed a three-run homerun to left field. Nolan Reimold followed with a solo shot of his own to give Bowie a 6-2 lead.
Jason Berken worked 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five. Berken has allowed just two runs on eight hits in his last 13.2 innings of work.
Bowie collected a couple of insurance runs in the top of the eighth inning. Jeff Nettles led off with a walk before Ryan Finan flied out and Sebastien Boucher struck out. Blake Davis pushed a base hit up the middle, moving Nettles to second and Mike Rodriguez drove a double to right field to score both runners, giving the Baysox an 8-2 lead. Felix Romero and Jason Burch combined for 2.1 innings and six strikeouts to close out the Senators. Romero struck out the side in the eighth and Burch did the same in the bottom of the ninth.
With the victory, the Baysox improve to 47-36 on the year, two games ahead of Harrisburg for second place in the Southern Division. Bowie looks to increase the gap between themselves and the Senators Tuesday night when RHP Brad Bergesen (8-2, 2.63 ERA) faces off against LHP Mike Hinckley (4-2, 4.69 ERA).
The Bowie Baysox are in their 16th season as the "AA" affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Baysox individual game tickets, season ticket plans, group outings, picnics and birthday parties are currently available for booking by calling the Baysox front office at (301) 464-4880.
