 Altoona Curve

Curve imprached by Senators

Altoona Curve News Release

ALTOONA - The Harrisburg Senators took three of four games against Altoona claiming victory in the series finale with a 4-2 win at Blair County Ballpark on Monday night.

The Curve are now 37-51 after they dropped six of eight games over their homestand.

Altoona led early in the contest thanks to Brad Corley hitting an opposite field home run to give the Curve a 1-0 lead.

The lead was short-lived, though. Harrisburg enjoyed five straight hits with two outs off Curve starter Yoslan Herrera (5-8). The big hit in the inning was a three-run homer off the bat of Leonard Davis. The Senators would plate another before the dust settled. Edgardo Baez knocked home the fourth run of the inning with an RBI single to give Harrisburg a 4-1 lead.

Herrera's night ended after five innings of work. The defector from Cuba issued three walks and struck out two hitters. Herrera suffered his first loss since June 11.

The Curve in a comeback attempt were able to draw within two. Jonel Pacheco was able to break a 0-for-16 slump at the plate with an RBI single that brought home Steve Lerud to bring the Curve within two at 4-2.

Altoona was in good shape for potential late-inning heroics in the bottom of the ninth. Jason Delaney led off the inning with an infield single. A would-be double-play ball off the bat of Jason Bowers was mishandled and the Curve had runners at first and second with nobody out. In a sacrifice bunt attempt by Luis Cruz, closer Adam Carr turned and fired towards third base to get the lead runner Delaney in a close play. So close, that manager Tim Leiper vehemently argued before he was ejected for the first time this year for verbally contesting a call.

Pinch-hitter Anthony Webster then grounded into a double-play, which ended the ball game.

The Curve hit the road for seven games in Trenton and Erie. Altoona will open a three-game series against the Thunder on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Josh Hill (4-10, 4.81) will start for Altoona, while Trenton righty Jason Jones (9-3, 2.28) will take the mound for the Yankees.

Radio coverage will begin at 6:50 p.m. with the Curve GameDay Show, presented by the Hotel Belmar and Budget Beverage on flagship station WHPA-FM, 93.5 and the Curve Radio Network.

Altoona will return home to Blair County Ballpark after the All Star break on July 17 when they open another eight-game homestand.
