NORWICH, CT- Things are starting to settle in and get pieced together perfectly for Nate Bump as he was named the Eastern League Bank of America Player of the Week ending July 6th.
Bump has pitched 14 and 1/3rd innings of work without allowing an earned run, which dates back to the 4th inning vs. Portland at home on June 25th. This season Bump has been most impressive vs. interstate rival New Britain. He is 2-0 in 3 starts while hurling 16 scoreless innings, striking out 9 and allowing just 3 hits. Bump is the second Defender to claim Pitcher of the Week honors as Joey Martinez swiped the title the week ending June 22nd and the fourth Defender overall with Ben Copeland and Travis Ishikawa being named Players of the Week earlier in the season. Nate Bump, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Connecticut Defenders, is the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 6th. Bump, a native of Towanda, Pennsylvania, made a pair of starts for the Defenders last week and had a record of 2-0 with nine strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA in 12.1 innings. The 31-year old made his first appearance of the week last Monday night at home against New Hampshire and surrendered three hits and one walk while striking out three batters over 6.1 shutout innings to earn the victory. In his second start of the week the 6'2", 195 lb. hurler struck out six batters and gave up just two hits and two walks in six scoreless innings to earn a win at New Britain on Saturday night. Nate, who has posted a 4.68 ERA over 113 Major League appearances, was signed by the San Francisco Giants as a Minor League Free Agent and assigned to the Defenders on May 11, 2008.
