Nominations Being Accepted for 2008 Grandparents All-Star Team
July 7, 2008 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats and the Central Connecticut Senior Health Services have announced that they are teaming up to celebrate one of our greatest natural resources - Grandparents - in the 2008 Season's "Baseball is Timeless" campaign. This unique partnership between two popular Connecticut entities includes a promotion that will select the region's first "Grandparents All-Star Team" - a highly experienced squad of pros - who will be honored at Grandparents Night at New Britain Stadium on August 29th.
Nine wonderful grandparents will be selected as All-Stars - and then honored at the Rock Cats 7:05 PM game that night (8/29) when the âCats host the Binghamton Mets at New Britain Stadium. Anyone may nominate a grandparent during the month of July at either the Rock Cats' website - www.rockcats.com - or at the Hartford Courant's Fan Assistance Desk located on the concourse inside the Stadium's main gates. All that those submitting nominations need to do is briefly state why their favorite Grandma or Grandpa would be worthy members of the All-Star Team! For lots of people, however, it will difficult to be brief when they start listing all the reasons why their personal favorites deserve to be publicly honored on this particular "Old Timers Day".
All those nominated - including those not among the lucky nine selected - will be invited by the Rock Cats to attend the game with their grandchildren.
This special August 29th game - presented by Central Connecticut Senior Health Services and its seven affiliates - will include a pre-game, All-Star Grandparent Parade on the field, a Rock Cats giveaway item for all grandparents, as well as a "Senior Expo" - a variety of attractions and displays related to the health and well-being of local seniors.
The Central Connecticut Senior Health Services network includes the Connecticut Center for Healthy Aging, Mulberry Gardens, Southington Care Center, The Orchards at Southington, Jerome Home, Arbor Rose and the VNA of Central Connecticut. Each of these facilities is directed at enhancing the quality of life enjoyed by all seniors and their families.
Fans interested in securing tickets for this special Grandparents Night game may do so by calling the Rock Cats Ticket Office at (860) 224-8383, or by visiting the New Britain Stadium Box Office (M-F; 10 AM to 6 PM; Sat from 10 AM to 2 PM). Those interested in the convenience of on-line purchasing may procure tickets by visiting the Rock Cats website at www.rockcats.com.
The New Britain Rock Cats are the Double-A, Eastern League affiliate of the American League's Minnesota Twins.
