PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the Major League Baseball Advanced Media selections for the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher and Player of the Week Awards for the week ending July 6th:

Akron Aeros catcher Wyatt Toregas has been named the Bank of America Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending July 6th. Toregas, a native of Fairfax, Virginia, had an outstanding week for the Aeros, hitting .421 (8-for-19) with three doubles, five home runs, 13 RBI, six runs scored and a 1.368 slugging percentage over six games. Each of the eight hits the 25-year old had during the week were extra base hits, including hitting three home runs during a 10-6 win at Erie on Wednesday night. The 5'11", 200 lb. slugger finished the week by going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one home run and five RBI in a 14-5 win at Binghamton on Sunday night. Wyatt, who is hitting .319 (15-for-47) with five doubles, six home runs, 17 RBI and nine runs scored in 14 games since joining the Aeros from Triple-A Buffalo on June 19th, was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 24th round of the 2004 draft out of Virginia Tech.

Nate Bump, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Connecticut Defenders, is the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 6th. Bump, a native of Towanda, Pennsylvania, made a pair of starts for the Defenders last week and had a record of 2-0 with nine strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA in 12.1 innings. The 31-year old made his first appearance of the week last Monday night at home against New Hampshire and surrendered three hits and one walk while striking out three batters over 6.1 shutout innings to earn the victory. In his second start of the week the 6'2", 195 lb. hurler struck out six batters and gave up just two hits and two walks in six scoreless innings to earn a win at New Britain on Saturday night. Nate, who has posted a 4.68 ERA over 113 Major League appearances, was signed by the San Francisco Giants as a Minor League Free Agent and assigned to the Defenders on May 11, 2008.
