Curve Add Pitcher Chad Blackwell to Roster
May 31, 2006 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release
In a roster move announced prior to Wednesday's game at Akron, the Altoona Curve have added RHP Chad Blackwell from Pirates' extended spring training. The right-hander has joined the club in Akron and will be available to pitch out of the bullpen Wednesday night.
The 5-foot-11, 165 lb. right-hander was acquired by the Pirates as the player to be named later in the trade that send left-hander Mark Redman to the Kansas City Royals in December. Pittsburgh also acquired right-handed reliever Jonah Bayliss, who is currently pitching at Triple-A Indianapolis.
Blackwell was originally drafted by the Royals in the sixth round of the 2004 draft out of the University of South Carolina and spent his first two professional seasons pitching in the Kansas City organization.
Altoona will play the middle game of its three-game series against the Akron Aeros (AA/Indians) Wednesday night at 7:05 PM at Canal Park in Akron, OH. Right-hander Matt Peterson (3-3, 4.88) will make the start for the Curve.
