New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
(NORWICH, CT)---Fisher Cat starter Kyle Yates won his first game of the season, and first at the Double-A level, pitching a complete game shutout over the Connecticut Defenders, 1-0, Wednesday night in Norwich.
Yates (1-5) allowed 4 hits, walking 2 and struck out a season-high 9 batters.
The only run of the game scored in the 8th inning. Shortstop Manny Mayorson led off with a bunt single, DH Curtis Thigpen singled, and both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt by 1B Chip Cannon. The Defenders walked David Smith to load the bases. RF Maikel Jova grounded into a force play, scoring Mayorson. Jason Waddell (0-2) took the loss in relief of Connecticut starter Matt Palmer.
New Hampshire (21-29) has won the first two games of the series by shutout, and will go for the sweep tomorrow morning at 10:35am in Norwich. RHP Mike MacDonald (4-3, 3.27) will start for New Hampshire against RHP Chris Begg (4-4, 3.62) for Connecticut (27-22).
