May 31, 2006 - Eastern League (EL1)
Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

The Reading Phillies scored in each of the first three innings, en route to a 6-2 victory at NYSEG Stadium Wednesday. The B-Mets, who've dropped the first two games of this three-game set, have now lost five in a row and nine of their last 10.

For the second straight day, Reading (21-30) picked up a pair of runs in the first. After starting pitcher Miguel Perez loaded the bases with one out, Angel Chavez brought in a run with a single before Brandon Gemoll walked with the sacks still packed, forcing in another run. Reading got two more runs off Perez (1-2) thanks to solo homers by Michael Bourn in the second and Matt Padgett in the third.

After Binghamton (21-32) got two scoreless innings of relief from Ryan Cullen, Eddie Camacho gave up two runs in the eighth on back-to-back two-out RBI singles by Jeff Castellano and Bourn for a 6-0 Phillies lead. Ivan Maldonado followed Camacho and tossed a scoreless ninth.

The B-Mets were unable to solve Reading starting pitcher Scott Mathieson (5-2), who allowed two hits and struck out 11 over seven shutout innings. Reliever Luke Lockwood came on to start the bottom of the eighth and, after getting two outs, gave up a double to Ray Navarrete and a two-run homer to Jorge Padilla to close out the scoring.

Thursday, the B-Mets wrap up three-game set with Reading. Lefty William Collazo (3-4, 2.74) gets the ball for Binghamton against fellow southpaw Daniel Haigwood (1-3, 4.21) of Reading. Game time is 10:30 from NYSEG with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the broadcast at 10:15 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
