Harrisburg Senators game notes

May 31, 2006 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

Today's Game... The Senators look to snap their two game losing streak this morning with the first of two games today. This is the first day/night doubleheader the Senators are playing this season and they did not play in one last season. In the morning game RHP Beltran Perez will be on the mound for the Senators opposed by LHP John Thomas for New Britain.

Last Time Out... The Senators had early chances on Tuesday night, but failed in several two-out opportunities and eventually fell to New Britain 10-2. The Senators stranded ten runners through six innings, seven of them in scoring position, which hurt their chances for the win. Meanwhile New Britain led 4-1 into the sixth inning and after watching the Senators put runners on base all game long, the Rock Cats broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning. The six run inning was the first one this season by an opponent of the Senators.

Double Dips... After not winning a game last year in any of the four doubleheader's they participated in, the Senators are now 4-2 this season. The doubleheader sweep of Akron was their first doubleheader sweep since August 5, 2004 when they took two from Reading.

Heading to DC... When Alex Escobar was called up to the Nationals he became the third Senators player in the past two seasons to go directly from Harrisburg to Washington. Last year Ryan Zimmerman and Darrell Rasner went directly to the Nationals. Shawn Hill pitched one game for New Orleans but then was called up to the Nationals to make a start against the Dodgers over the weekend.

Road Trip... The Senators are playing the sixth game of an 11-game, 10-day road trip. This is the longest road trip of the season, and the longest trip since the 2002 season. The Senators will also play their first day/night doubleheader in several seasons on this road trip. Because of a rain-out earlier this season in New Britain, the Senators will play two games in New Britain on Wednesday.

Double Digits... The Senators saw another team reach double digits on them in falling 10-2 to New Britain Monday night. Going back to a week ago Sunday, the Rock Cats are the fourth team to score at least 10 runs in a game against Harrisburg. The previous three were Akron (0-14), Erie (0-14), and New Hampshire (4-14).

Two Out Opportunities... The Senators are hitting .204 (10th) with two-outs and runners in scoring position and they have 50 RBIs (T8th) in the same situations. Conversely the pitching staff is allowing their opponents to hit .239 in the same situations which is the second worst batting average against in the league.
