
Thunder to host Special Olympics Night June 3

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double A affiliate of the New York Yankees, will host the athletes and coaches of the Special Olympics New Jersey at Waterfront Park on Saturday, June 3 at 7:05 PM for a special pre-game ceremony.
Special Olympics New Jersey is providing tickets to the Thunder versus Reading Phillies (Double A Affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies) game to all athletes and coaches participating in the 2006 Special Olympics New Jersey Summer Games.
Pre-game activities at the Thunder game are scheduled to include the introduction of Team New Jersey, a 61-athlete delegation that will head to Ames, Iowa for the first ever USA National Games in July.
"We are so happy to just be a part of the Special Olympics Games and give these athletes a fun night out in the midst of their competitions," said Thunder General Manager Brad Taylor. "We hosted 2,500 Special Olympians and their families at last year's game. This year, the event has grown to 4,000 people."
The 2006 Special Olympics New Jersey Summer Games will take place June 2 to 4 at The College of New Jersey in Ewing. More than 2,500 athletes will compete in Aquatics, Bocce, Gymnastics, Powerlifting, Tennis, Track & Field, and Softball.
Families and friends of Special Olympics are also invited to come out to Waterfront Park. From 9 AM to 2 PM on game day, tickets will be available for $5 at the media tent on campus, on a first come, first served basis.
This is the second straight year that the Thunder and Special Olympics New Jersey have teamed for a night at the ballpark. Last year, 2,500 athletes, coaches and family members attended the Opening Ceremony Summer Games and enjoyed the Thunder game.
