
David Pauley Recalled to Boston

Portland, Maine- The Boston Red Sox today called-up Sea Dogs' right-handed pitcher David Pauley. Pauley will get the start tonight at 7:00 PM in Toronto against the Blue Jays in place of David Wells. Pauley will wear the # 60 for the Red Sox. Left-handed pitcher Mike Rozier was promoted from Single-A Greenville to Portland. He will wear the # 37 for the Sea Dogs and will get the start in game one of a doubleheader tonight at 6:00 PM against the Trenton Thunder (Yankees) at Hadlock Field. The Boston Red Sox also placed Sea Dogs' infielder Keoni De Renne on the disabled list with a right ankle strain. Infielder Dustin Kelly was transferred to Portland from Single-A Greenville to replace De Renne.
Pauley becomes the 126th player in Sea Dogs history to reach the Major Leagues. The 22 year-old has made ten starts for Portland this season posting a 2-3 record. His 2.39 ERA ranks seventh in the Eastern League. In 60.1 innings pitched, he struck out 47 batters and walked 17. Pauley's 47 strikeouts tie him with lefty Kason Gabbard for the team high.
The Longmont, Colorado native was acquired by the Boston Red Sox on December 20, 2004 in the trade that sent outfielder Dave Roberts to the San Diego Padres. The Red Sox also acquired outfielder Jay Payton and infielder Ramon Vazquez along with Pauley in that trade. Pauley was originally drafted by the Padres in the eighth round of the June 2001 draft.
In his first season with the Red Sox organization in 2005, he went 9-7 with a 3.81 ERA in 27 starts for Portland. In 156 innings pitched he struck out 104 batters and walked 34. His nine wins, 27 starts, and 156 innings were all career highs. He ranked eighth among Red Sox farm hands with his 3.81 ERA.
Rozier has appeared in nine games for Single-A Greenville this season posting a 3-1 record with a 4.01 ERA. The 20 year-old was a 12th round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox in the June 2004 draft. He spent the entire 2005 season at Greenville where he was 6-5 with a 3.90 ERA.
Kelly is hitting .269 in 15 games at Greenville this season. The 23 year-old was drafted by the Red Sox in the 15th round of the June 2004 draft. He appeared in four games for the Sea Dogs in 2004 and hit .267 in 15 at-bats with a double and three RBI's for the Sea Dogs. He will wear the # 20 for the Sea Dogs.
The Portland Sea Dogs continue their series with the Trenton Thunder with a doubleheader this evening beginning at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field. The series will conclude with a 12:00 noon game on Thursday, June 1st.
