Iowa Cubs News Release

Salt Lake City, UT - The Iowa Cubs (59-68) beat the Salt Lake Bees (57-70) 4-1 tonight at Spring Mobile Ballpark, completing a sweep of this four-game series. The Cubs finished 5-3 on this road trip and have won a season-high four straight games on the road. This is the first time the Cubs have ever swept a PCL series in Salt Lake City.

Cubs' starter Chris Rusin (3-2) allowed one run on six hits over seven innings for the win. The Bees scored their only run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Cole Armstrong. Blake Parker worked a scoreless eighth inning and Scott Maine struck out the side in the ninth to earn his team-leading 11th save.

The Cubs' offense took advantage of some Bees' mistakes to grab the lead. With one out in the fourth inning, D.J. LeMahieu singled, went to second on a passed ball, and scored on a single by Ryan Flaherty. The unearned run was the Cubs' only tally against spot starter Barrett Browning, who worked four innings.

Marc Bulger worked two scoreless innings before the Cubs took the lead against Ryan Brasier (1-1) in the seventh. With one out, Matt Spencer singled, stole second, and scored on a two-out single by Marwin Gonzalez for what turned out to be the game-winning run. The Cubs added two insurance runs against Michael Kohn in the ninth. Chris Robinson extended his hitting streak with a one-out single and scored from first on a base hit by Brett Jackson after Alexi Amarista mishandled the ball in center for an error. After a walk to Gonzalez, Lou Montanez singled to drive in the Cubs' final run.

The Cubs return home tomorrow night to start a four-game home stand that's part of a stretch of nine straight games against the Oklahoma City RedHawks. RH Nick Struck (2-3, 4.63) will start for the Cubs against LH Dallas Kuechel (0-1, 15.09) for the RedHawks. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. and will be broadcast live on AM 940 with the Safeco On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45.
