Tucson Padres News Release
The Tucson Padres had a productive eighth inning for the second straight night, scoring three times Friday in their 4-3 win over the Nashville Sounds. With the score tied at one in the eighth, the Padres loaded the bases with none out and Luis Martinez hit a two-run double. Bobby Kielty scored a valuable insurance run later in the inning on a wild pitch by Mike McClendon. Nashville scored once in the eighth and once in the ninth but left the tying run on base when the game ended.
The Padres originally took the lead in the fifth on a solo home run by starting pitcher Jeremy Hefner. The Tucson pitching staff did not hit a home run in the first 122 games of the season until Hefner and Samuel Deduno each went deep at Greer Stadium in Nashville this series. Hefner had one of his best starts of the season, pitching 6.2 innings, allowing just one run.
The Padres had seven hits in the game by seven different players. One night after pitching two innings, Tucson closer Brad Brach threw 18 pitches, 14 for strikes, in his eighth save of the season. The Padres won three of eight games on the road trip and now have a 57-69 record.
Next Game: Saturday, 7:00 pm vs. Sacramento at Kino Stadium "" Sacramento RHP Tyson Ross (1-1, 7.97) vs. Tucson LHP Rob Musgrave (0-1, 6.66). Tucson Padres replica jersey giveaway to first 1,000 fans ages 17 and older, presented by Bank of the West.
