Lake Erie Crushers News Release

Avon, OH - Lake Erie starter Kevin Skogley took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but the Beach Bums from Traverse City would eventually get hits and runs against the Crushers as they won on Tuesday afternoon by the final of 6-2.

Skogley started the seventh inning with Lake Erie leading it 1-0 on a solo home run by Arden McWilliams. But the Beach Bums would tie the game on an RBI groundout by John Alonso. Then with the no hitter still intact with two outs, Brian Lapin drove home the go-ahead run off of Skogley on an RBI single to give Traverse City a 2-1 lead. "I didn't realize there were no hits going on at the time," said Skogley. "But I'd rather have a win than a no-hitter anytime."

Lake Erie would respond in the bottom of the seventh as McWilliams struck again on an RBI single to tie the game at two.

In the eighth inning, the Beach Bums would go right back to work as Mike Victor led off the inning with a double and would score on a throwing error by Jodam Rivera. Then after a pair of walks, Patrick Perry hit a two-run double to give Traverse City a 5-2 edge. The Beach Bums would add one more run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Victor.

David Nathanson worked seven effective innings for the Beach Bums, giving up two runs on eight hits to record his first victory of the season. Shannon Sprouse took the loss in relief. "It was a pitcher's duel out there, and that's pretty much what you're going to see every night at this ballpark," said Crusher manager John Massarelli.

The homestand continues Wednesday evening for the Crushers as finish up their three game series with the Beach Bums starting at 7:05 PM.
