
Beach Bums Overcome Lake Erie

Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
AVON, Ohio - The Traverse City Beach Bums were hitless entering the seventh inning but rallied to overcome the Lake Erie Crushers 6-2 on Tuesday afternoon.
David Nathanson started for the Beach Bums and finally recorded his first win of the season. Nathanson let Lake Erie get on the board first when Arden McWilliams homered with two outs on a 1-0 pitch in the bottom of the second.
Lake Erie held the lead until the seventh inning, riding the arm of Kevin Skogley. Skogley did not allow a hit until the seventh. James Guerrero led off the inning with a walk and Mike Epping followed by reaching on an error that allowed Guerrero to head to third. John Alonso tied the game with an RBI groundout and with two outs, Brian Lapin posted the first hit, a single to left that scored Epping and put the Beach Bums up 2-1. Skogley tossed seven innings for the Crushers and despite not allowing a hit until the seventh did not factor in the decision.
The Crushers tied the game in the bottom of the seventh as Arden McWilliams drove in another run, capping a string of three straight hits. Nathanson threw seven innings and allowed two runs on eight hits to go with three strikeouts in picking up his first win of the season.
Traverse City continued to rally, taking the lead with three runs in the eighth and adding another in the ninth. Mike Victor doubled to start the eighth, moved to third on a sacrifice, and scored the go-ahead run on an error. With runners at second and third, Patrick Perry doubled home two runs to distance the lead to 5-2. Kyle Maunus singled to start the ninth and went to third on an error before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Mike Victor.
The Beach Bums won despite totaling just five hits. The five hits came from five different players, all situated from fourth to eighth in the order. Patrick Perry drove in two runs for the Beach Bums in the contest.
The series will conclude tomorrow night with a 7:05 pm rubber game. RHP Kevin Reese (2-1, 5.00) will climb the hill for Traverse City while Lake Erie counters with RHP Brent Lysander (2-0, 4.84). The contest can be heard live on The Fox FM.
