Rockford RiverHawks News Release

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Home runs overshadowed Tanner Watson's return to the Rockford RiverHawks. Ross McCoy, Jason James and Jono Brooks all left the park on Tuesday as the RiverHawks routed Evansville, 14-2, at Bosse Field.

McCoy broke out of a 5-for-27 slump with his home run. James was 3-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to a career-best 14 games and Brooks extended his on-base streak to nine games.

Watson, a member of Baseball America's 2007 All-Independent Leagues first team, made his season debut and regained sole possession of the RiverHawks' all-time wins record with his 24th victory in a Rockford uniform.

Rockford has won six of its last eight games.

The RiverHawks never trailed. Evansville starter Brian Oates (0-4) gave up three home runs in three innings of work. In the second inning, McCoy broke a scoreless tie with a two-run liner over the fence in left field and Mike Goetz added a two-out RBI single. In the third inning, James led off with a first-pitch homer to right and, with two on and two outs, Brooks homered just inside the foul pole in left.

Watson signed with the Chicago Cubs after his dominant 2007 season, when he recorded a team-record 11 victories in a single season. He began 2008 with the Cubs' Class AA affiliate in Tennessee, but was released in June and finished the year with Ottawa of the independent Can-Am League.

The series finale is at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday.

The RiverHawks return home for a three-game series against Evansville at 4:05 p.m. Sunday as the RiverHawks celebrate Father's Day. The first 1,000 receive a RiverHawks logo baseball, great for autographs or for catch. Before the game, fathers and kids can play catch on the field. After the game, players will also autograph balls. Don't forget the early start times for Sunday games this year. As always, kids get to run the bases following Sunday games. Sponsored by OSF, Q98.5, and Fox 39.
