Grizzlies Snap Streak with Win

Charlie Lisk's single with the bases loaded in the ninth inning lifted the Gateway Grizzlies to a 9-8 come-from-behind win over the Southern Illinois Miners in front of 3,004 at GCS Ballpark Tuesday night. Lisk's hit capped comeback that saw the Grizzlies score six runs over the final two innings. The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Grizzlies.

The ninth inning hit was Lisk's only hit of the game. He now has a league-best 29 RBIs.

Trailing 8-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Grizzlies scored five times to even the score. Stephen Holdren homered with one out to get the scoring started for the Grizzlies (8-15). Joseph Scaperotta walked and Jareck West singled with two outs. Chad Rothford then homered to cut the Southern Illinois lead to 8-7. Alex Kerins followed with a solo home run to tie the score.

Shaun Ellis (1-0) earned the win in relief after a perfect top half of the inning. Ellis retired the Miners' 2-3-4 hitters, all by strikeout, in the ninth.

Holdren was 3-4 with the home run and two runs scored. West was 3-5 with a triple, two singles and two RBIs. Kerins was 2-4 with two RBIs. Rothford was 1-4 with the home run.

Southern Illinois (13-10) led from the outset, scoring three times in the top of the first inning.

The two teams will finish the series Wednesday afternoon at GCS Ballpark. First pitch is set for 12:05 pm.
